MIC DUBB 911

As I began my interview with Mic Dubb, I was personally curious about the name, “Mic Dubb “ he explained to me that he had the name for years and got it from one of his boys back in the days. His boy J Ish started calling him Dubb, for “W” and the name just stuck like glue. I continued to chop it up with him and wondered how it was coming up in Gary, Indiana a city that is known for being the birthplace of the JACKSON 5, and high crime. Mic Dubb explained that it is a crazy place and can be rough at times, and that he has seen a lot of craziness in the streets. The population may be small, but that is the exact reason why the crime rate is so high. He mentioned that he always tried to stay positive despite the conditions of the city around him.

Mic Dubb went on to explain to me some of his influences in music, though the list is long, some of the stand out names were: The legendary 2 Pac, Biggie Smalls, Jay-z (from his hustlers standpoint), 8Ball and MJG, and OutKast. Some of his RNB influences are: Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and R Kelly. These are definitely some of my personal favorites, so I knew that we had a connection. I wanted to know about some of his collaborations and he said that he has worked with some regional artists such as: Fitz Fonzarelli, B Lang, Bido, Curt Crack, Mr. Mr. No Love, and Blazed to name a few.

As a writer, he has written music for: Willie North Pole (from Phoenix, AZ) and a few other teams from his area. He also says that he perfects his craft for people who simply like good music. He writes for everybody from, hustlers moving 100 bricks to the regular Wall Street Joe.

Mic Dub mentions that he is grinding, banging out mixtapes and is doing shows to eat. He is also looking for new producers with new sounds to record with. He mentions that his angle in the game is simply, to be himself. From the way that he dresses to the way that he talks, he’s just himself and that is exactly what the game is missing. Good people making good music, and that the essence of rapping is to be yourself. He just happens to be a cool ass dude that knows how to rap. He also says that he doesn’t try to impress people, but definitely tries to give his fans what they are looking for, and is not trying to perpetrate a tough image with a big ego.

So, check out Mic Dubb on his social media accounts and follow this man as he makes good music. “The 911 Mixtape” is dropping on January 29, 2013 @datpiff.com and @reverbnation.com Double album dropping summer 2013.
MORE: MIC DUBB

Michael James Williams (Born October 27, 1983), also known by his stage name Mic Dubb, is an independent Midwest rapper, song writer, and producer from Gary, Indiana. Though most people recognize his home town as the birth place Michael Jackson, Mic Dubb grew up in a different era of the once highly industrial city. Crime started to rise and the steel industry declined as the city fell apart. Seeing the future of the city, and what could potentially become Mic Dubb’s, his father decided to send him to a visual and performing arts school at the age of 14, rather than his home school, which may have saved his life.

Since a kid Mic Dubb always had a strong interest in music, from live instruments to rapping. His older brother played live instruments, and rapped as well. When Mic was about 4 years old, his big brother used to teach him verses and have him rap them in front of his friends whenever they came over to the house. Everyone was so impressed at the fact he was able to remember the lyrics and say them so clearly at such a young age. Mic was constantly inspired to perfect his craft. At the age of 12, Mic Dubb started to write his own songs and record them in his bedroom with only a stereo and two blank cassette tapes.

At the age of 16, Mic Dubb joined a group called Daily Krusifixion under the name N-finity. The original members were The C.R.U.K., KC The Profit, Criminal Coop(now known as Coop Cosa) and Killa Kain(now known as Kris Styles). A self titled album was released by the group in 1996. Shortly after, the name was changed to Out Of Order, and new members were also added. The group released 4 Studio albums and several EP’s, and was well known in the city for their unique production and subject matter.

Mic Dubb Later went on to do solo projects as members of the group went their separate ways. He has released 4 solo albums that have solidified him as a real lyricist, and made a name for him in his city as well as a few other places throughout the country. Mic was also featured on the original version of the hit single “Midwest Girls”, an anthem for the ladies of the Midwest region which received a nice amount of radio spins for an artist with no record deal. A remix to the song was later released with a different roster of MidWest Artist.
